“HPQ Silicon und Novacium melden Patent für umweltfreundliches Wasserstoffproduktionssystem an”
HPQ Silicon Inc. Announces Patent Application for a Low-Carbon Hydrogen Production System
HPQ Silicon Inc., a technology company specializing in environmentally friendly processes for the production of silicon dioxide and silicon material, is pleased to inform its shareholders that its Lyon-based sister company, NOVACIUM SAS, has filed a patent for a chemical-based, autonomous high-pressure hydrogen production system with low carbon emissions.
Revolutionizing Hydrogen Production
The new hydrogen production system uses a chemical process to release hydrogen from certain low-cost, low-carbon, and harmless alloys. Moreover, the hydrogen produced by the chemical process directly achieves industrial standard pressure levels, typically between 200 and 1,000 bar.
Unlike conventional electrolysis-based hydrogen production systems, the Novacium process does not require electricity, extensive storage capabilities, or complex transport infrastructure, thus providing a truly autonomous solution.
“This innovative approach aims to release the hydrogen stored in water using environmentally friendly and cost-effective alloys, thus creating an alternative, safe, and efficient method of hydrogen production,” said Dr. Oleksiy NICHIPORUK, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Novacium. “We believe that this system has the potential to change the role of hydrogen as a clean energy source in various industries.”
Addressing the Need for Autonomous Hydrogen Production
The dual process, designed for both military and civilian purposes, meets the need of a potential customer for an autonomous high-pressure hydrogen production system with low CO2 emissions that can be deployed on demand anywhere in the world, even under off-grid conditions, with safety being a top priority.
Development of a Prototype System
Novacium is currently in discussions with two potential customers to secure grant funding of 35% to 75% of the costs for the provision of the first functioning prototype of the system by the end of 2024.
“The uniqueness of Novacium’s hydrogen production system lies in the fact that it redefines the simple and safe production of hydrogen and reduces the need for transport. It therefore has the potential to significantly influence the role of hydrogen as a safe and clean on-site energy source in various industrial applications,” said Bernard Tourillon, President and CEO of NOVACIUM SAS and HPQ Silicon Inc.
Hydrogen: Market and Limiting Factor
There is no doubt that hydrogen can play a significant role in decarbonizing the economy due to its emission-free properties and high energy-to-weight ratio. However, in 2021, less than 1 million tons (Mt) of the total hydrogen demand of 94 Mt will come from low-emission sources, the rest will be produced from unabated fossil fuels.
According to a Deloitte study, achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 requires the development of a clean hydrogen market of 170 million tons (MtH2eq) by 2030, with forecasts reaching nearly 600 MtH2eq by 2050.
“We are pleased to announce the filing of this patent application in conjunction with the rapid and high market interest in our solution,” said Dr. Jed KRAIEM, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Novacium. “This is a crucial step in our endeavor to advance sustainable and autonomous energy solutions.”
About NOVACIUM SAS
Novacium is a green technology startup based in Lyon, France, founded in the third quarter of 2022. It is the result of a partnership between three leading French research engineers, Mr. Jed KRAIEM PhD, Novacium’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr. Oleksiy NICHIPORUK PhD, Novacium’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and Mr. Julien DEGOULANGE PhD, Novacium’s Chief Innovation Officer (CIO), who wanted to establish a new research and development company to develop their own technologies in high-value areas related to renewable energy, and HPQ Silicon Inc, a Canadian company that wanted to expand the depth and reach of its technical team to develop its silicon and new renewable energy projects.
HPQ Silicon is a Quebec-based Tier-1 industrial issuer of the TSX Venture Exchange. With the support of top-tier technology partners PyroGenesis Canada and NOVACIUM SAS, the company is developing new environmentally friendly processes that are crucial for the production of the essential materials required to achieve net-zero emissions.
