“Patent Attorney Fang Liu Joins Panitch Schwarze’s Intellectual Property Team”
In a significant move to bolster its patent team, Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP has announced the addition of Fang Liu, a seasoned patent attorney and researcher. Liu’s appointment is expected to enhance the firm’s capabilities in safeguarding intellectual property rights, a critical aspect of its service offerings.
Liu’s expertise spans a broad spectrum of patent-related activities, including U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, patentability, validity, and non-infringement opinions. Her extensive knowledge in organic and inorganic chemical arts will be instrumental in advising clients across a wide range of sectors such as pharmaceutical chemistry, polymer chemistry, petroleum chemistry, nanotechnology, photographic and lithographic chemistry, material chemistry, agricultural chemistry, food additives, and coating compositions.
“Panitch Schwarze’s team of patent attorneys is extremely skilled at helping clients navigate the complexities of patent law, and I look forward to adding my experience in chemical research to their knowledge base,” said Liu. “Protecting intellectual property is key to successful research, and I am dedicated to securing the best possible outcomes for clients through the patent process.”
Liu’s career trajectory includes stints at both large and small law firms. Before joining Panitch Schwarze, she served as a patent attorney at a large general practice law firm and prosecuted patents at a prominent intellectual property boutique in Washington, D.C. Her legal career was preceded by over a decade of experience as a research associate and teaching assistant at several U.S. universities.
In addition to her practical experience, Liu is a published author, contributing to several articles and books on chemistry-related topics. Her academic credentials are equally impressive. She pursued her Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Purdue University under the tutelage of Professor Ei-ichi Negishi, a Nobel laureate in chemistry. Liu’s postdoctoral adviser, Professor Marye Anne Fox, is a recipient of the National Medal of Science, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on scientists, engineers, and inventors.
Liu earned her J.D. with honors from the University of Akron School of Law. She also holds master’s degrees in organic chemistry from West Virginia University and Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Nankai University.
